FAQ: Fatal Winsock Error 10048

Problem: I'm running Novell® and RPM Remote Print Manager®. If I exit RPM and restart it, RPM gives me this error.

	Fatal Winsock error!  Can't bind server socket: 10048 already in use!

Answer: Novell is one of the few, if only, Windows sockets products that still use a TSR. Normally, you can stop and restart RPM as often as you wish, but with Novell whether you can or not seems to change with the version. Restarting the PC is a safe bet if you have this problem.

Note: this problem has been reported with Windows 3.1, not Windows 9x.
