FAQ: "?" print out in "raw" queue

Question: I have RPM Remote Print Manager™ version 2.3.0.2 set to print to a raw type RPM queue. The problem is, when I send a print job with special characters, they print as ? rather than the special character that it's supposed to. Can this be fixed?

Answer: This could be caused by two things.

  1. We are aware of a translation problem with RPM printing out question marks rather than other special characters. This is caused by a programming "bug" in RPM version 2.3.0.2. We have fixed it in the newest version of RPM for Windows 2000/NT which can be downloaded here.
  2. Second, you may need to change the code page and the script for your queue. Do this by following the instructions below.
    1. Select "Edit Queues:" from the "Queues" menu in RPM.
    2. Press the "Queue Setup" button. You will see the code page as "US ANSI (Windows 3.1)". This needs to be changed to the correct code page you wish to print.
    3. At this point, the "Font" dialog is automatically brought up. Now select the script you wish to use. Some code pages only have one script (or no script at all), so select that script.
    4. Press OK on the "Text Setup" dialog.

Notes: If you are using a raw type queue, the code page should already be translated. If not, change the queue type to "Print Text" and follow the above instructions. When finished, press OK and change the queue type back to "Pass data directly to the printer".

This is a global change. When you change the queue type for one queue, all queues will use the same code page.
