Problem:
When printing to RPM from a remote AS/400 OUTQ, jobs print over and over again. How can RPM be configured to receive these print jobs only once?
Answer:
To resolve this issue, upgrade to the latest version of RPM. This issue was resolved in RPM 2.1 and some earlier pre-releases.
Explanation:
TCP/IP uses the idea of a "connection" between two programs. When one side closes the connection, the other finds out. The AS/400 LPR did not handle this issue properly when RPM closed the connection first. Then, believing something was wrong, it would send the job again.
RPM Remote Print Manager™ now leaves the connection open until the other side closes it. This was not a problem with other LPR clients including those found on Unix systems.
