AS/400 print jobs repeat over and over

Problem:

When printing to RPM from a remote AS/400 OUTQ, jobs print over and over again. How can RPM be configured to receive these print jobs only once?

Answer:

To resolve this issue, upgrade to the latest version of RPM. This issue was resolved in RPM 2.1 and some earlier pre-releases.

Explanation:

TCP/IP uses the idea of a "connection" between two programs. When one side closes the connection, the other finds out. The AS/400 LPR did not handle this issue properly when RPM closed the connection first. Then, believing something was wrong, it would send the job again.

RPM Remote Print Manager now leaves the connection open until the other side closes it. This was not a problem with other LPR clients including those found on Unix systems.
