Question:
We want to run RPM on a Novell network, but we don't have any NT servers, just workstations! Is it possible to send print jobs directly from RPM NT to a Novell printer in the NDS tree or Bindery?
Answer:
New version of the Novell client incorporates this functionality. If you are already utilizing the newest version of the Novell client, click here for further information. Otherwise, follow the steps below.
It is difficult to access Novell resources from any Windows NT service, including RPM. This is because Windows NT services only have Windows NT credentials, not Novell credentials. Essentially, these instructions give the entire workstation access to Novell, including any and all Windows NT accounts.
- Use the Novell client (version 4.7 works) instead of the Microsoft "Client for Novell Networks" that comes on the Windows NT CD-ROM.
- Install the Workstation Manager Service included with the Novell client software.
- Import and register the workstation object in the Novell Directory Services (NDS) tree using the "Netware Administrator" program.
- Assign the "Workstation" object's container as a user of the Netware Print Queue in the NDS tree. This is also done in the "Netware Administrator" application.
Note: Each workstation that connects to Novell requires another client license. Therefore, if RPM is accessing Novell and the interactive user is also accessing Novell, you will require 2 client licenses for a single computer.
