Problem:
I receive the following error message when attempting to install RPM on my Windows system.
An error (-5006 : 0x8000ffff) has occured while running setup.
Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other
applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor.
How can I bypass this error and finish the RPM installation?
Answer:
This is an InstallShield error. The simplest way to fix this issue is to rename the setup file to setup.exe. The error should not reappear.
Another method, especially valid on a terminal server, is to place the computer into install mode. To do this, open the Add or remove programs utility from the Control Panel, click Add New Programs, then click the CD or Floppy button, making sure there is no CD or floppy disk in the computer. When prompted, browse to the RPM installation program manually.
Note: You must be logged on as an Administrator account to install RPM.
