RPM Remote Print Manager - DCOM Configuration
For users to be able to access the RPM Remote Print Manager® user-interface (UI), the proper permissions must be given to them by the system administrator. The RPM Setup program does this automatically unless it is installed by a user without the proper permissions to do so. To give this access after the setup program has finished, log in as the Administrator and follow these steps.
- From the Start menu in Windows, choose Run.
- In the Run dialog box, enter dcomcnfg and press OK.

- In the Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog, scroll down and highlight RPMSrvc and press the Properties button.

- Open the Security tab in the RPMSrvc Properties dialog box. There are three sections; each section is specific to allowing or denying access to user and group accounts. Depending on the selections here, users can be granted rights to start and stop the service, access the UI, and configure the service.

- Select Use custom access permissions if it not already selected and press the Edit button in this section. You should see the following dialog. Typically, the INTERACTIVE and SYSTEM local accounts as well as the owner should be granted the Allow Access permissions. If this list is blank, press the Add button and add these accounts to this list. Press OK when finished here.

- Back in the RPMSrvc Properties dialog, select Use custom launch permissions, then press this Edit button. You should see the local accounts: SYSTEM, INTERACTIVE, and Administrators listed here. If not, add each of these accounts giving Allow Launch permissions. Press OK.
- Back in the RPMSrvc Properties dialog, select Use custom configuration permissions and press Edit. You should see this dialog. If these users and groups are not listed, press Add and add each account giving the access as shown. They special access permissions are listed as appropriate.

Now, log out as the Administrator and test by logging in as the user. The DCOM permissions should now be sufficient to allow users to launch the RPM UI.
