Mac OS X - Setup and Configuration Instructions

To configure Mac OS X to print through RPM, the Mac must be configured to print using the LPR protocol. For these instructions, assume the IP address of the RPM host is 192.168.1.51. Your system administrator has information about your RPM host computer.

Creating a Queue in RPM

  1. Open the RPM user interface and choose New Queue from the Queues menu.
  2. Enter the name of the queue you wish to create and press the OK button. The Edit Queues dialog will be displayed.

  3. From the list of Queue Types, choose Pass data directly to the printer (raw). *

  4. Press the Printer Setup button. In the Print Setup dialog, choose a printer from the list of available printers. Press the OK button.

  5. In the Edit Queues dialog, press the Queue Setup button. Select Translate LF to CR/LF and press the OK button.

  6. Press the OK button to accept the changes and dismiss the Edit Queues dialog.

Note: Choose a queue type consistant with your requirements. You can try both the Text and Filter queue types. All three types perform specific actions. To learn more about the different types of queues, click here.

Configuring the Mac OS X LPR

  1. Verify you can make a connection to RPM. Firewalls, such as those installed by Windows XP service pack 2, may block incoming print requests.
  2. For Mac OS X 10.2.8 or earlier, choose Edit Printer List from the Printer menu in the Print dialog. For Mac OS X 10.3 or later, choose Show Printer List from the View menu. The Printer List window appears. Click the Add button to begin adding a new printer.

  3. From the drop-down list at the top of the dialog, choose IP Printing.

  4. Enter the IP Address or DNS hostname of the computer running RPM. Deselect Use default queue on server and enter the name of your queue in RPM. From the list of available printer models, select your printer. If your printer is not listed, contact the printer manufacturer for a supported Macintosh print driver.

  5. Click the Add button. Your new printer will be installed and listed in the Printer List window. Now, close the Printer List window.

  6. When you wish to print to this printer, open the file and choose Print from the File menu. Select your printer, as well as any other options available, and click Print.

Congratulations, Mac OS X can now print jobs through RPM to your Windows printer!
