RPM Installation and Setup Guide for Windows 98 and Millennium Edition
To install RPM, start by executing the install program from our download site
or on a CD-ROM provided by Brooks. If you have a CD-ROM, choose Run from the Windows Start menu,
type x:\setup (substituting your CD-ROM drive letter for x) and press OK. Follow these steps:
- At the Welcome screen, click Next > to continue.
- Next, read the software license agreement and press Yes if you agree to the terms. Setup will continue only if you press Yes.
- Click Browse if you wish to change the destination folder for RPM. We recommend you accept the default. Click Next to continue.

- Now, enter the name of the Program folder for RPM. Again, we recommend accepting the default. Click Next.

- The program files required by RPM will now be placed in the destination folder specified above. After the file copy process, some DLL files are registered and a trial license in initialized.
- When setup is complete, click Finish.

The RPM installation is now finished. If a previous version of RPM was installed, the configuration will be migrated.
Also, if a shortcut to RPM was placed in the Windows Startup group, check to verify that it points to the new RPM location.
Configuring RPM
Now that RPM has been installed, you must configure your queues. To open the RPM User Interface (UI), open the Windows Start menu,
point to Programs then RPM and click RPM. Note that your program folder may be different if you did not accept the default
locations during setup.

- When RPM is initially started, the Create a Queue dialog is displayed. If not, select New Queue from the Queues menu in RPM. In the New Queues dialog, type in the name of the new queue you wish to create. Use a descriptive name. This will be the name of the remote printer on your AS/400, mainframe, or UNIX box that is going to be sending print jobs.

- Now you are taken to the Edit Queues dialog. Here, you select a queue type. There are 3 types to choose from and your choice will depend on your host system (LPR) and printers. The 3 types are as follows: Text, Raw, and Filter. A brief description of each queue type follows:
- Text queues offer a wide variety of printing options. Use this if you want RPM to read your text and render it using Windows features.
- Raw queues send print files directly to the printer. If you print files with special control or printer codes, use a Raw queue
- Filter queues execute a program on your computer, rather than sending the print job directly to the printer. Use this type if you have special processing needs that are best met by another program.

Note: For a more detailed description, you can press F1 on your keyboard at this dialog.
- Now you need to configure the queue to format incoming files. Press the Queue Setup button, which will take you to the Text, Pass-through, or Filter Setup dialog. Select the options you want and press OK.
- Finally, you need to select a Windows printer that will handle the print jobs for this particular queue. To do this, press the Printer Setup button. You will be taken to the Printer Setup dialog where you can choose a printer. Press the Properties button to change the page orientation and other print driver controlled options.

Note: This step can be skipped if you have selected a Filter type queue.
Congratulations, you have now successfully configured RPM version 2.5 for Windows 95, 98 and Millennium Edition!!!
