ExcelliPrint IPDS Features
A high-level view of our IPDS printing product, ExcelliPrint® 5.0.
A real IPDS printer to your host
ExcelliPrint emulates the IBM 4028, 3812 and 3816. It holds the two-way IPDS conversation a printer does: it reports its paper and trays, takes part in error recovery and acknowledges each page, so PSF on IBM i and z/OS drives it like any other IPDS printer. It interprets every tower a job uses: text, fonts the host downloads, images, graphics, bar codes, overlays and page segments.
Converts IPDS to PDF
Searchable PDF, with the document’s text behind every page, so it can be found in any PDF viewer and indexed by document management systems. PDF/A-2b for long-term archives, and passwords and permissions when you need them.
Prints on any Windows printer
The Windows Driver format draws each page through the printer’s own Windows driver, so any printer Windows can print to will print IPDS: laser, inkjet, label and virtual printers. The host’s paper trays and output bins map to the printer’s, and its duplex and copies requests are followed.
Sends PostScript or PCL6 straight to the printer
For the greatest speed, ExcelliPrint can send PostScript or PCL6 (PCL XL) to a printer as it is, bypassing the driver, with tray and output-bin mapping and an optional PJL header naming the job and user.
Saves TIFF, PostScript and PCL6 files
One multi-page TIFF per job, at 72 to 600 dpi, in color, grayscale or black and white (CCITT Group 4). PostScript level 2 or 3, and PCL6, for files to be printed or converted later.
Emails print jobs
Each job can be sent as an attachment, in any of the file formats, through your mail server, with TLS. The sender, recipient, subject and message can include the job’s details, so, for example, each user’s reports go to that user.
Names files from the job
Files, print jobs and attachments are named from the details the host sends with each spooled file: job name, user, spooled file name and number, form type, library, output queue, and the date and time. Files go to a local folder or a network share; ExcelliPrint connects to shares and shared printers as a Windows user you store, and the password is protected by Windows.
Font mapping
Choose the TrueType font that draws each IBM typeface. OCR-A, OCR-B and a Letter Gothic font are included, and OCR text is kept at the size its standard sets so scanners can read it.
One window for queues, jobs and the log
Queues, jobs and the log are in one Windows program. Each job is listed with the host’s details and its outcome; a job that can’t be finished is marked failed, with the reason in the log, and partial output is never delivered.
Secure by design
No web server and no browser login. Each queue takes jobs only from the hosts you list, and only Windows administrators can change settings. More about security.
Troubleshooting built in
Queues capture the data the host sends, so support can reproduce a problem from a recent job. An IPDS Printer queue passes a host’s job through to a real IPDS printer and captures both sides, to compare. Diagnostic logging switches on without a restart.
