Printing to a Specific Tray

Q: I need IPDS print jobs to come out of a specific tray (paper source) on my printer. How do I control which tray is used?

A: The host chooses the tray, page by page, as it would on an IBM printer: on IBM i through the printer file’s DRAWER, and on z/OS through the form definition. ExcelliPrint® passes that choice to your printer through a tray mapping in the queue’s output format:

FormatWhere to map trays
PCL6Paper Trays in the format’s Setup: for each host tray, Auto select, Manual feed, Tray 1 (multi-purpose) to Tray 4, the envelope feeder, or further trays
PostScriptPaper Trays in the format’s Setup: the printer’s MediaPosition number for each host tray, from the printer’s PPD file
Windows DriverInput Trays in the format’s Setup: one of the paper sources the printer’s driver lists, for each host tray

Output bins are mapped the same way. The printer chooses (or Automatic) leaves the tray to the printer, by the paper each page needs.

Separately, the queue’s own Paper Trays setting says what paper is in each tray of the emulated IBM printer. The host uses it to choose trays and lay out pages, so set it to match your printer’s paper.

To print a job from a different tray, change the tray the host selects, or change the queue’s mapping. See chapter 7 of the ExcelliPrint manual.
