Our best advice on setting up your print client is to consult your IT staff, local documentation or do a web search. It’s nearly impossible to keep up with all the versions of all the systems and do so accurately. Nonetheless, here are the setups we’ve acquired over the years. They may or may not be outdated depending on what you have, but they have been useful to others in the past.

We keep all of them published, including the ones for platforms their own vendors stopped supporting long ago - AIX 3.x, SunOS, SCO UNIX, SGI IRIX, Mac OS 7.6. Customers still run those systems, and a system that still works is not one anyone wants to replace just to get a report printed.

It is worth knowing which half of this ages. The host-side steps below do, because vendors move their menus and rename their tools. RPM’s side does not: what RPM speaks is LPD, documented in 1990 and unchanged since, and we have never removed a host protocol from the product - not once across every release from 2008 to the present. Reach is a property of the protocol rather than of per-platform code, so there is nothing on our side to rot.
