New in ExcelliPrint 5.0
ExcelliPrint® 5.0 is a new program, written for 64-bit Windows. It’s still an IPDS printer to your IBM i or z/OS host, rebuilt for three things: security, so only the hosts and people you choose can use it; reliability, so every job is accounted for; and rendering, so every format looks right. Every ExcelliPrint license now has every feature: there are no longer Premium and Standard editions. See how it compares with 4.0.
A Windows program instead of a web interface. Queues, jobs and the log are in one window. There is no web server, browser login or SSL certificate to manage. Only Windows administrators can change settings; other users can view them. See security.
One drawing engine for every format. PDF, TIFF, PostScript, PCL6 and printed output are drawn by the same engine, so a job looks the same in every format, and saving it as PDF shows what the printer will print.
New formats and settings. PDF/A-2b for archiving, PDF passwords and permissions, PostScript level 2 or 3, PCL6 (PCL XL), TIFF resolution and color, and tray and output-bin mapping for printers. See PDF conversion and towers and color.
Windows Driver output prints through any printer’s own Windows driver, following the host’s trays, output bins, duplex and copies.
Credentials without impersonation. Folders and printers on other computers are reached as a Windows user you store in ExcelliPrint; passwords are protected by Windows.
Accept jobs from. Each queue accepts jobs only from the hosts you list; other connections are refused and logged.
Font mapping. Choose the TrueType font for each IPDS typeface. OCR-A, OCR-B and a Letter Gothic font are included.
Clear job outcomes. A job that can’t be finished is marked failed, with the reason in the log; partial output is never delivered. Each job’s details from the host are in the Jobs list.
Backup and restore. File > Backup Database saves a copy of the configuration and history while ExcelliPrint runs, and Restore Database puts one back.
Diagnostics. Settings > Diagnostics switches on diagnostic logging without a restart.
Upgrading from 4.0
ExcelliPrint 5.0 doesn’t read 4.0’s configuration: set up your queues again, and point your host printers at them. Some 4.0 features aren’t in 5.0: the web interface, iSeries device and spooled-file management, the JPEG, GIF, PNG, text and PCL5 formats, and margins and watermarks. See 4.0 and 5.0 compared and upgrading from 4.0.
