Windows LPR problems sending large files

We have received several reports recently from customers who are sending large files to RPM using the Windows LPR on the following systems:

  • Windows XP 32 bit
  • Windows 7 64 bit

Symptoms:

  1. For files of 2 GB or more, the XP client reports the file size incorrectly, sometimes as a negative value, waits two minutes, then aborts the connection without sending anything.
  2. For files of 4 GB or more, the Windows 7 client reports a number less than 4 GB (the amount varies) then sends the lesser amount.

There are a number of free and commercial LPR clients. If you depend on LPR to work correctly with extremely large files, we recommend using an LPR client for which you can obtain commercial support.
